Raising Bilingual Children in Japan: Presented by Mary Nobuoka

Mary will share a wealth of information about the benefits and challenges of raising a bilingual child in Japan including: 

  ◦The academic and social benefits of bilingualism
  ◦The factors for success
  ◦Understanding what's involved so parents can plan for the future

Mary Nobuoka came to Japan in 1994 and was the coordinator of the JALT Bilingualism Special Interest Group from 2011 to 2015. She was also the editor of the Children's Resource column for the Bilingualism Japan newsletter. She served as an executive board member of the Japan Association of Language Teachers (JALT) from 2011 to 2015. She currently teaches various courses at Gakushin University, Waseda University and Keio University. She enjoys spending her free time with her husband and 14-year-old bilingual son.
